MediKit Version History
- v3.01 (Current Release)
- Geriatric depression scale added. With the large number of depression scales around, the GDS has been recognised as one of the most effective and should be preferentially used in the assessment of older patients.
- Installation upgrade: Some users had difficulty installing to the D drive - this problem has been rectified.
- An error in 'Partial Pressure' and 'Energy' Units conversion has been corrected.

(Previous releases)
- v3.00
- Revo & Series 7 compatibility added: Many graphical sections of MediKit have been rewritten to enable the program to function fully on EPOC Revo and Series 7 (Netbook) systems, in addition to Series 5, 5mx and Ericcson MC-218 machines.
- MediKit is now completely referenced: Reference sources for all medical calculations are available using the 'Guidelines' and 'References' feature.
- Easy to read Guidelines text: The text explaining the equations and mechanisms used to calculate results has been reprogrammed and presented using large-font (multipage) dialogs. This replaces the previous small font Guidelines which some users found difficult to read.
- New calculations:
- Hydrogen ion concentration to pH conversion: especially useful for those blood gas machines that stubborny refuse to divulge pH.
- Left & right stroke work index: New equations and references have been added.
- Portsmouth POSSUM (P-POSSUM) Mortality risk estimation: this calculation has been added to the POSSUM score calculation. P-POSSUM mortality risk has been shown to provide a more accurate result than the original equations.
- 'Energy requirements' calculation updated for obese subjects: When calculating energy requirements, if the weight entered is greater than 125% of ideal body weight, an alternative formula is used to account for metabolically inactive fat tissue.
- Other improvements:
- Anion gap equation changed: and updated with a new reference.
- Paediatric paracetamol dose: If a child's weight is specified by the user (rather than estimated by MediKit), paracetamol dose is calculated using a weight based dose. If weight is estimated, age based dose ranges are applied.
- Paediatric minimum urine output: changed to 0.5-1.0 ml/kg/hr based on two separate references
- Paediatric estimated fluid requirement: an improved formula has been added.
- MediKit's abbreviations are now stored in the helpfile rather than being accessed from the Guilelines screen.
- User registration information can now be easily re-entered if MediKit is restored from backup. Previously, the user had to manually delete specific files.
- User defined information files (ie paediatric formulary and drug infusion files) can now be saved to the D drive (if available).
- MediKit is now distributed in SIS file format.
- Numerous other minor improvements.
- v2.21
- New Sections:
- Total cholesterol to HDL cholesterol ratio calulation with interpretation of result
- LDL to HDL cholesterol ratio calculation with interpretation of result
- Pounds & Ounces conversion - for non-metric users: if a conversion is performed within
the Paediatric section, the 'New child' screen is automatically loaded
with the converted weight inserted.
- Paracetamol overdose: serum paracetamol levels can now be entered in mmol/l or mg/L
- Added a 'Paediatric Preferences' screen to the 'Preferences Section"
- Custum paediatric drug formulary: drug frequency can now be entered in US
terminology (qd, bid, tid etc) or UK (od, bd, tds etc) (Select in paediatric preferences)
- Bugfixes
- Selecting LDL calculation (added in v2.20) accessed estimated Creatinine Clearance instead
- Several dialog and interface changes
- v2.20
- Major enhancement:
All calculations can now be performed in either Standard
International (SI) or Conventional (US) units.
This should prove especially useful to US users who have had to
rely on the 'Units Conversion' section of MediKit in the past.
- New Assessments:
- Coronary Heart Disease risk and Stroke risk profiles. Using logistic
regression equations derived from the Framingham population study, this assessment
estimates the risk of Coronary Heart Disease & / or Stroke events for a particular
patient based on their risk factors.
Risk factors (eg smoking) can be added / removed to determine their effect on the calculated risk.
5 & 10 year risks are calculated, however calculation for a specific number of risk years can be performed.
- Alvorado Acute Appendicitis score with inbuilt interpretation of result
- Koenig Brief Depression Scale: 11 point scale for use with elderly or medically ill patients in the emergency setting
- Hamilton Depression Scale: in 17 or 23 point format
- Clinical Croup Score and Syracuse Croup Score added to the paediatric section with inbuilt interpretation of result.
- New Calculations:
- CSF Protein & CSF White Blood Count correction for blood contaminated CSF samples
- Estimated LDL calculation (using serum cholesterol, HDL & VLDL /
triglycerides)
- Estimated VLDL calculation (using serum cholesterol, LDL, HDL)
- Haemoglobin units conversion (mg/dl -> mmol/l)
- Standardised Creatinine Clearance: adjusted for body surface area
- Other improvements:
- Added a 'References' button to the Guidelines screens which gives the source
of data used for calculations.
- Paediatric specific assessments are now only accessible from the Paediatric
section
- The units conversion section is now accessed from the 'Conversion' menu, and
the list of units has been split into 'Biochemical' and 'Others'
- MediKit's Preferences now includes the option to set all the calculation units
to SI or Conventional.
- 'Sodium corrected for glucose' section now uses a different equation
- 'Elderly' assessments menu replaced with 'Psychiatric'
- 'Help File' updated and the file is no longer 'read only' to ease upgrading
- Several cosmetic improvements.
- v2.11 (Interim release)
- New paediatric drugs
- Updated Paediatric anti-convulsant fixed-drug doses (in line with APLS protocols):
Added phenobarbitone IV, changed phenytoin dose to 18 mg/kg, changed diazepam IV to 0.4 mg/kg,
added Paraldehyde dose for under 6 months old, removed IM dose
- Bug fixes
- Selecting APGAR scores from the main menu accessed Delivery Dates instead
- Viewing Conversion calculation Guidelines from the Paediatric section produced an error
- Corrected typo in the Guidelines formula for Burns calculations (the calculation itself was correct)
- v2.10
